• Babies may need their eyes to be cleaned especially if they have some discharge coming out.

• Remember with every cleaning attempt, there is a tendency to introduce infections and damage. So be careful

Equipment

• Sterile water or cooled boiled water in a container

• Sterile cotton wool

• Gloves/ gown

METHOD

• Wash your hands and use the sterile gloves

• Wrap the baby in a warm towel with face exposed. Place them on the changing mat

• Pour clean water into the sterile galiput (cup) and dip the cotton wool into it.

• Squeeze the excess water and wipe the eyes from medial side outwards( from nose outwards)

• Use different cotton wool for different eyes
