  • Babies tend to soil their nappies very often. Almost every time they take a feed.

  • Babies may cry during changing, as they don’t like to be cold.

  • It is important to keep checking if the nappy is wet or soiled repeatedly as you wouldn’t want your baby to develop skin rashes.

Requirements

  • Gloves/ gown

  • Cotton wool or soft cloth

  • Warm water ( check it prior) or wet wipes in babies over a month old.

  • A new set of nappies

Remember don’t leave the baby alone on the table even for a minute

Procedure-

  • Wear your gloves and gown

  • Place the baby on the clean surface

  • Stand on the side of baby

  • Remove the velcro tabs of the nappy to loosen it and stick them inwards to prevent it hurting baby’s skin

  • Using your non-dominant hand, hold the ankles and lift the feet approx 45- 60 degrees from ground

  • Using your dominant hand, slide the nappy from front to the back.

  • If there is soiling, then after removing the nappy, wipe the area gently from front side to back side always.

  • Pat dry with a clean cloth

  • Slip a new nappy underneath the bottom and place the baby on the nappy still gripping the ankles.

  • Now spread the legs and pull the front portion of the nappy and fix securely.
