How to hold or lift a baby?
-
There are many ways to carry a baby.
-
It needs a lot of experience to do it confidently.
-
Especially babies born preterm (less than 37 weeks) tend to be more flaccid compared to a term (more than 37 weeks) and hence your grip should be firm.
PROCEDURE
-
Stand on the side of the baby
-
Make sure you look around and see if it’s safe
-
Remember never panic when carrying a baby. Have a firm grip
-
Slide one of your hand under the infant’s shoulders and neck and spread your fingers to support the head.
-
Now slide your other hand from the other side (around the baby’s waist) and grip the bottom gently and firmly.
-
The baby should completely lie on your arm and bring the baby close to your chest.
