  • There are many ways to carry a baby.

  • It needs a lot of experience to do it confidently.

  • Especially babies born preterm (less than 37 weeks) tend to be more flaccid compared to a term (more than 37 weeks) and hence your grip should be firm.

 

PROCEDURE

  • Stand on the side of the baby

  • Make sure you look around and see if it’s safe

  • Remember never panic when carrying a baby. Have a firm grip

  • Slide one of your hand under the infant’s shoulders and neck and spread your fingers to support the head.

  • Now slide your other hand from the other side (around the baby’s waist) and grip the bottom gently and firmly.

  • The baby should completely lie on your arm and bring the baby close to your chest.
